Fashion trends to look forward to in 2019 – Boston Herald

The new year looks bright — at least in your closet — as fashion trends from the runways make their way into real-life wardrobes.

First up: Think color — not-so-mellow yellow was a fave during the Spring 2019 New York Fashion Week, ranging from deep lemon to rich mango shades and everything in between. And not just as accessories — designers showed monochromatic suits in paintbox tones, a welcome break in the boardroom.

Speaking of which, the suit is back, and it’s not trying to fit in with the boys. Clean lines in those bright hues or subtle neutrals make this business staple a fashion win. As for those neutrals — the key is layering.

Boho is eternal — at least it’s here for another season. That neo-hippy, ethnically influenced design aesthetic continued to grab space on the runways, with rich detailing that adds chic to the laid-back vibe.

Buckle up — whether the mood was military or safari, many designers went for the belted pants, jackets and jumpsuit utility look. Lots of khaki, natch, but some crisp whites as well.

Dot matrix — if you’re a polka dot fan, this is your year. The pattern shows up on as teensy-print billowy blouses, medium-print dresses, and mega-dot suits. It’s all there in black and white.

Take wing — Hope is the thing with feathers, wrote Emily Dickinson. You’d better hope you live near a good dry cleaner, because one of the hottest trends for 2019 is feathers — as in big, glamorous feathered frocks, or whispy puffs as accents. Practical? No, but who cares? It’s fashion!
